Background
Hello, my name is Jim and this is my web page. For the first 17 years of
my life, I grew up in Smithfield, Rhode
Island. I graduated Valedictorian from Smithfield High School in June,
1992. Then I moved on to college at The Massachusetts
Institute of Technology , where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science
in
Mathematics (also
took many classes in EECS ). Now
I am a doctoral student in the
Mathematical
Sciences Department
and a master's student in the Department
of Electrical and Computer Engineering
at Johns
Hopkins University
concentrating in Optimization, Operations Research
and Optimal Control.
Hobbies and Interests
At my home in Rhode Island, I have lots of pets, especially my cat, Mouse.
I am a big sports fan. My
favorite sports are College Basketball and Major League Baseball, though
I also watch Hockey and Football occasionally. Particularly, my favorite
college basketball team is the Providence
College Friars and my favorite baseball team is the Boston
Redsox.
Academic Interests
My academic interests include:
-
Mathematical Modeling and Optimization
-
Numerical Methods
-
Dynamical Systems
-
Scientific Computation
Particularly, I am interested in applying the theory of complementarity
from mathematical optimization to problems occuring in engineering and
finance.
During my last term at MIT, I took a great class: Society
of Mind
with Marvin Minsky (who is one of the founding fathers of AI).
Here are the papers I wrote for SOM:
